We’re always keen to hear from players of brass instruments, of whatever skill level, that want to be part of a sociable, fun and enthusiastic band that’s active throughout North Devon.
Our current membership is made up of a mix of ages, playing history and abilities; some of us grew up in brass bands; whilst others have only been playing a few years. We have members of our band in their seventies all the way down to members in their teens and some learners who haven’t even reached their tenth birthdays yet.
We play a great range of music, from marches through popular and classical tunes to jazz as well as more traditional brass band pieces such as hymns and Christmas carols.
We rehearse as a band on Monday and Wednesday evenings, 8:00-9:30, at our Howe Concert Hall in Castle Street, Great Torrington. Our rehearsals are quite relaxed with lots of humour, but, at the same time, the band work extremely hard to constantly improve.
If you are a completely new player to brass instruments and music, we will provide you with lessons either 1 to 1 or in a small group that will help you learn how to read music and play a brass instrument. When you are ready you will be able to join in with the main band during their practices and public events.
Please contact us if you have any questions or wish to join the band.
